A potential third wave of the COVID-19 virus could be more dangerous than the first and second wave, Health Ministry Spokesman Dr. Jayaruwan Bandara said.

Dr. Bandara said that there is a fear that a COVID-19 third wave will spread around the world early next year, adding that experts have warned a third wave would be more dangerous than the first and second waves.

"We will need to live with the coronavirus for at least another two years," he said.

He said that the health authorities continue to advise the public on the precautions that must be taken to contain the second wave in Sri Lanka.
