Media Minister Keheliya Rambukwella said that the governmnet has decided not to allow vehicle imports for a year as there are sufficient stocks available in the local market.

He pointed out that the restriction of vehicle imports would help curb currency outflow as Sri Lanka is faced with a severe currency exchange crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The minister made these remarks while addressing a media briefing in Colombo on Thursday.

Meanwhile, co-cabinet spokesperson minister Ramesh Pathirana said that governmment officials who have been issued permits to purchase vehicles can use their permit to purchase vehicles from the local market deducting the value of the permit.
